This year I've challenged myself to read 85 books. Last year it was 52 (one a week) and I managed 54, so I though, let's go bigger!
From the 85 I'd like to read at least 40 29 (let's be honest, this are not going to be contemporary romances) from 1985. I saw on reddit the other day that someone was reading books published on the year they were born and so I borrowed that idea, hence 29 books from 1985.
Here goes nothing, number one on my list is Blood Meridian: or The Evening Redness in the West - Cormac McCarthy, and I have the feeling I should have picked something easier to star with.
I'm surprised at the amount of good reviews this book has. I found Anna annoying to no end. What a whinny self-righteous hypocrite. Every time she whined about her dad's books I wanted to shout at her: THIS BOOK sounds exactly like her dad's books! When St. Clair is describing her as a "funny, smart, intelligent girl" I kept thinking, well, obviously he hasn't heard her internal monologue or he'll be jumping out of the Notre Damme tower in a minute.
Everything in this book annoyed me, I could not find one single redeeming aspect, if only that is so short! I don't know what the people who gave it 4 and 5 stars were smoking when they read this.
I liked it but can't shake the feeling that Mead keeps dragging things off for unnecessary reasons or for the sake of having a good and long series of books. I get slow burn but this is getting ridiculous. Everything unfolds at such a slow pace. I loved that Sydney and Adrian's relationship is finally developing but can she stop junking the chain with Jill and Edie? Very good ending though.
I had such high expectations for this book after reading so many raving reviews about it. I'm happy to say all my expectations were met and then some. This was just so, so good. I can't wait for the next book.
It was okay, I really liked the mystery and the build up but in the end it was a lot of build up for a just okay resolution in my opinion. Same for the UST, a bit disappointing. I also just liked the characters, didn't love them. I'm not sure about reading the next one.
